Norway... That's in Europe somewhere, right? In fact, Norway is the westernmost country in Scandinavia; you might be surprised to know that it is 1,100 miles long, or the same distance from New York to Miami. Really!
Cold and dark during the winter, Norway is warm and bright during the summer. I had a few days of clouds and rain, then sun and heat. My trip took me to the southern part of Norway, and even there, the sun was out til 1130pm. In the very north, the sun is out 24 hours a day!
Norway... the land of Lillehammer (winter Olympics), the painter Edward Munch ("the Scream"), Henrik Ibsen (author), Vikings, fjords, fish and $11 combo meals at McDonald's. It is not cheap, unfortunately!
What I saw was beautiful, green, and there was water everywhere. Fjords, streams, lakes, ponds, waterfalls... It boggles the mind to see how much influence water has had on the landscape. It's part of what makes Norway famous. It also explains the Vikings' ship design: shallow drafts that enabled them to travel far upstream throughout Europe, deeper inland than any other sea-faring invaders.
I know I say it about everywhere I visit, but Norway should be added to your list. And try to visit during the summer, unless you like snow, cold and 24 hours of darkness!
